Dental Implants for Missing Teeth

If you have a missing tooth or loose teeth, dental implants are a great permanent solution to restore your function and smile. They are customized and fitted to replicate your natural teeth. Plus, dental implants don’t increase your risk of tooth decay or gum disease because they integrate with the jawbone and the mouth, providing stability. Just care for your dental implants like natural teeth. The best part of dental implants is that they are resistant to gum disease offering you a definitive solution to your condition.

If your gum disease condition has resulted in bone and tooth loss and no longer responds to periodontal treatment, dental implant placement should be considered as the premier option to replace the lost anatomy and teeth. Ephesians 2:10

Can You Have Dental Implants If You Have Periodontal Disease?

Fortunately, if you have gum disease, you can still receive dental implants, but only if the gum disease is treated. Periodontal disease needs to be corrected before getting dental implants, otherwise, the dental implant procedure could be compromised by infection from diseased sites and lead to dental implant failure. If there is significant bone or gum loss, Dr. Bramanti is highly skilled in all types of bone grafting and soft tissue grafts to supplement your areas of loss (Learn more about bone loss here).

Many dental implant candidates with gum disease may need preliminary treatment to replace the gums or bone with grafts to ensure proper integration with dental implants. Regeneration of diseased tissues of the jawbone and surrounding gum tissue will provide sufficient strength and tissue volume to permit successful anchorage of dental implants.

Even if you have severe gum disease, you can still receive dental implants. In fact, it’s best to replace all affected teeth with dental implants before the disease spreads to the rest of the jawbone, resulting in increasing amounts of bone loss. In other words, any lost bone and gum tissue should be replaced with bone and soft tissue grafts before the dental implant procedure.

It is important to see your periodontist before your gum disease worsens. Prevent further bone loss and find out about your treatment options including dental implants
